Frequently Asked Questions

May I bring my dog?

Leashed pups who are friendly and well-mannered with people and other animals are welcome– we have a bunny and two kitties who get spooked easily.  Pets are not permitted close to the fruit trees and must remain outside of the market.

Do we need to bring our own bags?

We encourage you to bring your own reusable bags or baskets; if you do not have them with you, we have paper bags available here at the market.

Can we picnic here?

Yes! We have plenty of picnic tables and Adirondack chairs with beautiful views of the mountains.  We sell local cheeses, honey, and other snacks in our market for you to enjoy. . . and feel free to bring your own bottle of wine.

Please clean up after yourself and throw away or recycle all trash.

Should I wash my apple before I eat it?

Like any fruit or vegetable that you get anywhere, you should always wash it before you eat it. We have a sink in the market so you can enjoy your apples and peaches at the orchard!

Is F. T. Valley's fruit organically grown?

F. T. Valley is not 100% organic, but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t extremely safe when it comes to cultivating our fruit. We are growing apples and peaches for you, our customers, and for our own family. We use some of the safer organic chemicals, however we don’t limit ourselves from using newer pest control methods that are safer to mammals and the environment than some of the organic materials. These methods include mating disruption and fermentation products that are in the safety range of beer. Keep in mind, some organic growers use organic forms of insecticides such as plant extracts– many of which kill the beneficial insects that are trying to eat the bad bugs for us. Brett Elford, our pomologist and orchard manager, works directly with our friends at the Virginia Cooperative Extension and Bill Mackintosh, from Mackintosh Fruit Farm, for best practices in the safe treatment of our trees.  Our number one concern is keeping everyone, including our pups, healthy.
